Abuse recovery
Many people believe abuse only refers to physical harm, but abuse can take many forms. This includes emotional abuse, psychological abuse, sexual abuse, financial abuse, coercive control, neglect and chronic invalidation. These experiences can profoundly affect safety, self trust, boundaries and identity.
Abuse often occurs within cycles of violence, where tension builds, harm occurs and is then minimised, denied or followed by reconciliation. Over time, this cycle can erode confidence, increase self blame and make it difficult to recognise what is happening or leave unsafe situations.
Beyond Talk Therapy™ supports recovery by prioritising safety, choice and regulation. Trauma informed approaches help survivors understand how their responses were adaptive, not weak. By working with the nervous system, parts of self and relational patterns, clients can rebuild internal trust, strengthen boundaries and move toward greater agency and stability.
