Grief and Loss
Grief is one of the most complex and challenging emotional experiences people face. It can follow the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, changes in health, fertility experiences, miscarriage, estrangement, or the loss of hopes, expectations or identity. Grief does not follow a clear timeline and often shows up in ways people do not expect.
For many, grief is not experienced only as sadness. It may present as numbness, anxiety, irritability, exhaustion, guilt or a sense of disorientation. When grief is not recognised or supported, it can become suppressed, and over time this unexpressed grief often emerges as anger, reactivity, resentment or emotional shutdown. People may feel confused about why they feel so reactive or disconnected without realising grief is sitting underneath.
Beyond Talk Therapy™ offers space for grief to be acknowledged and processed without pressure to move on or make sense of it too quickly. Somatic and nervous system based approaches allow grief to be felt and expressed in a way that feels safe and contained, especially when words feel limited or overwhelming. Symbolic and experiential methods can help access layers of grief that sit beneath conscious awareness.
This work supports both honouring what has been lost and rebuilding capacity for life and connection. When grief is allowed to move through rather than be held in, people often experience greater emotional range, relief from anger or numbness, and a renewed sense of grounding and meaning.
