Children and Adolescents
Children and adolescents often express distress through behaviour rather than words. This may include emotional outbursts, withdrawal, anxiety, school difficulties, changes in mood, defiance or shutdown. These behaviours are often signs of nervous system overload, unmet emotional needs or difficulty processing experiences rather than intentional misbehaviour.
Young people are still developing the capacity to regulate emotions, communicate needs and make sense of their internal world. Stressors such as family changes, trauma, social pressures, academic demands or identity development can easily overwhelm their system.
Beyond Talk Therapy™ supports children and adolescents using developmentally appropriate, relational and body aware approaches. This may include somatic work, symbolic expression, sandtray, parts based understanding and gentle regulation strategies. Parents or caregivers are often included where appropriate, as co-regulation and the relational environment play a key role in a young person’s wellbeing.
The focus is on supporting emotional safety, regulation, expression and resilience, while strengthening the child or adolescent’s capacity to navigate challenges as they grow.
