Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety and depression can present in many different ways. Anxiety may show up as constant worry, racing thoughts, physical tension, restlessness or feeling unable to switch off. Depression may appear as low mood, emotional numbness, exhaustion, loss of motivation or a sense of disconnection from life. Many people experience a combination of both, often fluctuating over time.

These experiences are not simply cognitive or emotional. They are often signs of a nervous system that has been under prolonged stress or has learned to stay on high alert or shut down as a form of protection. Life events, trauma, attachment patterns, grief and ongoing pressure can all contribute to these states, even when there is no obvious external cause.

Beyond Talk Therapy™ works with anxiety and depression at the level of both understanding and regulation. While insight and reflection are important, change often occurs when the body and nervous system are also supported to settle and process. Approaches such as somatic work, Brainspotting, parts work and EFT can help reduce emotional intensity and increase capacity for regulation.

As regulation improves, people often experience more emotional range, clarity and resilience. Rather than managing symptoms alone, therapy focuses on understanding what your system is responding to and supporting it to return to greater balance. Over time, clients often report feeling more grounded, present and able to engage with life in a way that feels sustainable and meaningful.
