Trauma

Trauma can result from single events or ongoing experiences such as neglect, emotional harm, abuse or chronic stress. It often shows up as anxiety, shutdown, hypervigilance, emotional reactivity, dissociation or difficulty feeling safe in relationships.

Trauma is not the event it is what happened after the event.

  • Could you/ did you talk to someone?

  • Did someone listen to you about what happened without judgement?

  • Did someone listen (eg: believe you) and not shut down your experience?

  • Were you allowed to have all your feelings about the event without someone stopping you feeling…angry, sad etc?

If you answer no to any of the above this is what can result in trauma.

Trauma is not the event, it is what happened inside of you as a result of the event.

The subcortical part of the brain holds the trauma and that is why I use lots of visual and non-verbal methods as that helps access the trauma centre of the brain. Brain spotting can also help access the trauma centres of the brain

Many people do not realise their current struggles are connected to unresolved trauma.

Beyond Talk Therapy™ approaches work gently with the nervous system to support safety and processing without re-traumatisation. Techniques such as Brainspotting, somatic work, sandtray, EFT tapping and parts work help the body and brain complete what was interrupted, allowing greater stability, choice and capacity in daily life.

Trauma often affects how the nervous system responds to everyday situations, long after the original events have passed. This can lead to feeling constantly on edge, disconnected or overwhelmed, even when life appears stable on the surface.

Beyond Talk Therapy™ works at the pace of your system, not your story. By supporting safety and regulation first, trauma can be processed without forcing recall or explanation, helping clients rebuild trust in their body and their capacity to cope.
