Couples

My work with couples is grounded in the understanding that relationships are shaped by emotional patterns, nervous system responses and relational history, not just communication styles. When partners feel threatened, misunderstood or disconnected, their nervous systems respond first, often leading to reactions that are difficult to shift through talking alone.

I draw from evidence based and relational approaches including Gottman Method, Hendrix, attachment based therapy and systemic understanding. This allows sessions to be practical, emotionally grounded and tailored to the unique dynamics of each partnership. We work with both what is happening between you now and what each partner brings into the relationship.

Couples sessions may focus on:

  • Communication and conflict patterns

  • Emotional safety and trust

  • Intimacy and connection

  • Parenting differences and family stress

  • Repair after rupture, betrayal or withdrawal

  • Repeating relationship cycles

  • Navigating life transitions together

A key focus of this work is regulation and repair. When partners can recognise their own activation and understand their partner’s responses, it becomes easier to slow down, stay present and reconnect after difficulty. Over time, couples develop greater emotional awareness, stronger repair and more secure ways of relating.

The aim is not to eliminate conflict, but to build the capacity to stay connected through it and to repair when things go wrong.
